Our District 20 meeting was held at Oleika Temple on April 11. This district meeting saw the largest attendance in our district in years. All the members who attended are to be congratulated for making this such a well attended meeting. Devotion Lodge was the host of the meeting. A large number of our brothers attended. We also took possession of the Traveling Gavel (for a while anyway). Both Lexington Lodge and Landmark Lodge made their respective desires known that we would only possess it for a short while. We look forward to their visiting our Lodge to wrest possession from us.
The district meeting also included educational topics. First was Christopher Kolakowski who, due his dual membership, was able to be installed with the same gavel used by George Washington. In memory of this historic occasion, Landmark will have a replica of that gavel in their lodge for inspection by visiting brothers. Mt Vernon Lodge #14 is the home of the Holy Bible that was used for the forming of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky. Hart Lodge #61 is the home of a Masonic Teaching Cloth that was formerly used to educate Masons as they progressed through the degrees.
On April 14, our Senior Deacon, Steve Nelson, made a presentation about attendance. It was a very will received presentation by the brothers and visitors in attendance. Also on April 14, two brothers were passed to the Followcraft Degree.
It was reported to the Lodge during our April 28 meeting that Past Master Doyle Rambo received a letter of commendation from the Secretary of the Navy for his years of work and service at the Shriner’s Hospital in Lexington. All the brothers of Devotion 160 are proud of the service provided by Brother Rambo.
Beginning May 9, Devotion # 160 will be having a Fish Fry at the Pavilion next to the Lodge on the second Friday of each month, through September 12. All brothers and friends are urged to come one out and join us for dinner. Bring a friend or prospect who may be interested in joining the Lodge.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those of us who are in harms way with our military and with those who are sick or distressed or have lost loved ones.
We are looking forward to the first Masonic Night at the Ballpark. We still have a few openings. So, if you would like to attend, please contact me now. My email address is fgirtzii@aol.com or give me a call. My office number is 859.233.4643 and home is 859.268.1418.
On June 20 we will have our first Friend to Friend dinner. All brothers are invited to attend with a non mason friend and his wife. Brother Past Grand Master Robert Davenport will make a presentation about Masonry. Please let me know that you will attend and how many people will be accompanying you so that we may plan dinner accordingly.
PM and DDGM Mike Johnson is looking for August2 or August 9 as the date of the outdoor raising at Elmendorf Farm. He would like one or two people from Devotion to be raised that day. Because he is a PM from our Lodge, we should have a good representation at this function. I have already told DDGM Johnson that I will be out of the country on both of these days and cannot attend.
Finally, One last question that I asked each member to think about and then let me know the answer: Why did I become a Mason? If you would share the answer with me, I would like to know. Thank you.
Fraternally Thine,
Frederick G. Irtz, II
Master, Devotion Lodge # 160 F&A M
